Membership Issues

Since I've been given this job, here it goes:

Myself and the treasurer have determined what we believe to be the current membership of the club.

If you think your name should be on the list, but is not, please get with John Cotton as soon as possible to clarify your status, because it will be very important going forward.

I am proposing that the pertinent sections of the bylaws be amended to reflect the following:

If a member in good standing pays their calendar year dues, that member shall be a member in good standing of the Club for the next calendar year whether that member chooses to attend Club functions or not. If a member in good standing pays a pro-rated portion of their dues after the start of the calendar year, that member shall be a member in good standing until the end of the calendar year in which the member pays dues. The Club will not refund any portion of dues for members who choose not to attend Club functions.

If at the end of a calendar year, a member in good standing does not pay their calendar year dues for the next calendar year, that member will be considered a member in good standing until March 31 of the next calendar year. If a member in good standing does not pay their calendar year dues by April 1st of the next calendar year, that member must re-apply for membership to the club and go through the normal application process, unless the member can show good cause why their dues will were not paid by April 1st. A petition for good cause must be approved by a vote of two thirds of the club membership.

So in a nutshell, if you pay your dues, you can disappear for 15 months before any action will be taken. I don't want to have to worry about chasing down people who don't attend functions. If you want to be a part of the club, show up, call someone and tell them where you are or at least post on here what the problem is.

I hope this solves this problem because, again, this is the last time I want to visit this issue. That is all.

What does it matter if a member pays his dues and doesnt show up. If he doesnt pay his dues and shows up is a different story. Who cares if you pay and doent show up. I have been on straight graveyards on a turn around at work since July 26th. Sorry I could not be there.

Oh yea, I dont support the proposed change to the bylaws.

I want to make something clear, and it may need to be clarified in amendments, but these changes are only meant to apply to people who don't pay dues and ALSO don't come to meetings. I think the case that Raybo brought up at thge meeting would not apply because Raybo had attended meetings even though he may not have paid dues. Thats probably something that needs to be cleared up.

Corey: I think you read the amendment wrong. If you payed your dues, you are a member, even if you do not show up. Maybe I am reading them wrong. There was no intention to exclude any dues paying member from continuing to a member if they payed their dues the next year.

Corey, let me give you an example of what we are talking about. If An Dihn showed up next month, whether he brought your gavel or not, and paid his December dues, would we just let him back in? I would say no and I think everyone else would say no, he would have to start like a new member. But its not completely clear in the by-laws so that is what we are trying to fix.

Again, if I have not made myself completely clear, the intent of the rule is only to weed out people who don't pay AND don't show up. If you do one or the other, we will assume you want to be a member of the club.

I had it all ecplained to me. I understand the situation now. Sorry. I was ill-informed. I support your ideas on long lost members trying yo come around and continue membership0 after a set set period. Start over. Most organizations I am in are the same way. If you miss 2 years and dont pay, your not automatically a member again if you decide to pay a prorated fee. You must start over. i.e.....YMBL.
