I'm going to suggest that we make 20 gallons on two systems.
I like this recipe for the red.
22.00 lbs American 2-row 2.00 lbs Crystal Malt 120°L 0.80 lbs American Chocolate Malt 2.0 oz Cascade (Pellets, 5.50 %AA) boiled 60 min. 2.0 oz Cascade (Pellets, 5.50 %AA) boiled 5 min. Yeast : WYeast 1084 Irish Ale
Its a 6.1% beer so it should be good for the competition.
This is the rye porter that Richard and I made that went over well.
15.00 lbs American 2-row 2.00 lbs American Chocolate Malt 2.50 lbs Rye Malt 1.67 lbs American Caramel 80°L 0.83 lbs Honey 1.3 oz Sterling (Whole, 7.50 %AA) boiled 60 min. 1.0 oz Northern Brewer (Whole, 8.00 %AA) boiled 15 min. 1.0 oz Willamette (Whole, 5.00 %AA) boiled 1 min. Yeast : WYeast 1098 British Ale
Richard can brew on his system. We need one more. We can probably switch out the caramel and the crystal if it helps.
I'm going to suggest that the people who provide the systems (Richard and someone else) get 5 gallons each, unless someone has a better idea. If we can further split wort without ruining it, we can split however we can. I'm tied up first thing in the morning, but can be there mid morning. Richard always gets an early start.
Please feel free to state views, opinions or other ideas and post if you are coming.

This paragraph is a late modification after reading Jason's post. Apparently I missed that we were brewing two different beers. I will leave the original post below. See you Saturday. I will be at Richard's to help start, but I have a noon commitment.
It looks like we are getting 20 gallons on a brew-in where the club wanted 2 5 gallon kegs. Who gets (and pays for) the other 2 kegs? Remember, we still owe Dean 10 lbs of malted grain from our function on National Homebrewers Day.
The red ale recipe depends on the dark caramel malt for color; I would suggest using Special B (as Larry and Doug did on NHB day), or a small amount of highly roasted grain or malt. The crystal malt may due the trick.
I have no problem with the system owner getting the additional 5 gallons, as long as they pay for the grain (less a reasonable charge for the system).

Eric: I have no problems with recipes or division of wort. My concern is that you are using two WYeasts (one in each recipe). One good (recent date) WYeast is marginally designed for 5 gallons - not 10 - and I would never use one - even for 5 gallons - without making a starter, meaning smacking should occur no later than Thursday morning. Dry yeast will not be as specific, but - with the late date - may be a better choice.

All,
We need one other person to volunteer their system if we are going to make 2 beers on Saturday. The alternative is to just make the beer for the Louisiana competition on Saturday and brew the Christmas beer later. If interested please post.

Members: Show up and help. I will be at Richard's early to help in crushing grain, adjusting the pH of the sparge (two stystems if present), and mashing in. I will need to leave by 10:30. Members please show up so that Richard is not left with all the work. Are La. people planning to show up for a beer planned for their festival. If not, I suggest the beer brewed used for the xmas party.

We decided as a club to make a beer for the Louisiana event and we should fulfill our obligations. The Louisiana members always show up and participate and I know Ira will be there Saturday. The Louisiana members are an asset to our group.
Richard has purchased adjunct grains and yeast for Saturday. We just need one more system if we want to make 2 beers.

Susan has informed me that I will not be brewing on Saturday since I will be gone all of next week. I could drop my system off tonight if we have enough people there tomorrow to run two systems. Richard or Eric : call me this afternoon after 3:30 PM if you want me to bring it by.
