It was a fun day, but a hot one. 90 outside and over 100 around the systems. I had one plan, but Dean had another; I went with Dean's plan. We added 29 lbs of malt to each of three systems. The 1st 4 gallons of runnings from each system was added to a separate pot. Dean's runnings contained 19% sugar, Mark's 20%, and Richard's 21%. The final gravity of the big beer was 1.100, but a little less than 10 gallons. My understanding about this event that all member participants would receive about 1 gallon to doctor, and all would save 3 bottles for a special event. The time to pick up you gallon will be posted later.
Members helping included Richard, Eric, Dean, Bill, Mark, John, Bob & Ira. We also had 2 guest present). I have 4 glass 1 gallon bottles, 3 available (preference to regular brew partners). Ira has them for sale in his shop. For fun, it might be interesting if one is brewed in a milk jug (oxidation might help this big beer).
Each system finished with 10 gallons of reasonable beer. Mark&John added DME, Richard, Eric, & I added honey (10.5 gallons at a OG of 1.064), I don't know if Dean & Bill made any changes.

I went home with a club members hydrometer and vessel. I cleaned them up and will bring to the right member the next time we get together.

Dean called today (Monday) and ask me to post that the pickup time for members who participated last Saturay to pick up their gallon of beer will be between 3:00 and 4:00 on next Saturday at Dean's house. He has a commitment before the event, and another one after. There are only 8 members that qualify, Ira is marginly qualified but if brew is left, he gets 1 gallon. I have 1 gallon jugs for Richard & Eric, and the required #6.5 stoppers. I have one additional jug, with the required stopper, and one additional #6.5 stopper. Dean said the 'Old Ale yeast started early last Sunday, and the lager yeast started Sunday morning. Dean also said that this lager yeast was a slow starter. Currently, the lager yeast is outpacing the ale yeast, due to the low temperature he is fermenting at. He will increase the fermenting temperature of the ale yeast.
I hope that all who participated have gallon jugs for their beer. As I said earlier, I have 1 gallon fermenter for a qualified member.
I hope Ira will respond to this message and assure everyone he will bring 1 gallon jugs, and with the required stoppers at a reasonable cost. Remember that you are expected to modify this beer and enter in competition next spring. I think all who take beer should also plan on bringing one beer to the meeting when we collect the beers for fellow entrants to evaluate.
See you Satrday.

The brew-in was a great learning experience for me. And a lot of fun. We should end up with some really good beers.
Dean and I did not add anything to our second beer. He was going to pitch a dry yeast(maybe nottingham?), and I am using the Rogue pacman. It was about a 1.070 starting gravity.
Bob, I think I left my hydrometer and vessel. If you are going to Mark's Sunday, maybe I can retrieve it then. Or maybe you can give it to someone on Saturday who is going to Mark's.
I have a VIP ticket for that Galveston beer thing on Saturday and will not be able to be at Dean's. Hopefully I can work something out to get my gallon. I will try to contact Dean and see what we can do.

Mungai: If you are Bill from La., we will try to find you a 1 gallon vessel (maybe a plastic one unless you contact Ira to bring a glass one with the appropriate cork and an air lock). I will bring it to Mark's on Sunday.

Bob,
I am the Bill from LA. I found my hydrometer, so that one is not mine.
I spoke with Ira today and his father in law had pasted away. It didn't sound like he would be able to make it to Dean's on Saturday. He was going to try and get Alice to Mark's on Sunday.

Condolences to Ira's family. I thought Ira said he was not taking a gallon, but it is ok if he does because he came and participated. There was some extra for the club to bottle so the club will just bottle a little bit less if Ira decides to take a gallon.

Geez. Ira's father-in-law passed away. I do not think any paste was involved.
When I spoke to Ira he did not seem interested in getting a gallon of the beer.
I spoke with Dean last night, and he said he would keep my gallon for me as I will not be able to pick it up Saturday.
I hope to see many of you all at Mark's on Sunday
