GTHC April 12, 2013 meeting
Minutes from the ass. Secretary (most members will agree with the self assigned title, or at least the 1st part.). I take responsibility for all errors and omissions. I hope Mark will fill in to correct and add what I did not hear or mis-heard (I blame USMC for my hearing problem).
Meeting at Eric’s in Sulphur; great mushrooms and company, started about 7:30.
John reported club money, sufficient for the remainder of the year. 21 paid members. By my count, 14 members were present, enough to conduct business. 2 guest (potential members) were also present.
Old Business:
NHD day for club brew-in is on May 4 (Saturday) at Richard’s. Committed to brew (10 gal): Richard, Mark, Doug, & Dean. I hope we can get more, maybe Ray, Jason, and someone from LA. If you want to brew, contact these, or contact me, I have a 5-gallon system and will help.
Glasses are in, but need to be printed.
Spring club event at Mark’s on May 18, starting at 2:00. Will be BBQ, but Mark needs help and additional pits.
Renaissance Festival: Scheduled Nov 9 for bus trip. Estimate for cost $50-$70 per person. We need 30 committed by the July meeting.
New Business:
Discussions were help on what constituted a quorum.
Roney suggested we use Robert’s Rule of Order ( I thought we did, but now formally proposed).
A proposal was made that I did not understand; sorry for not following through; maybe Mark remembers.
Proposal made and accepted that we get an accounting of club equipment and location of the equipment. I believe we made that the v-Pres responsibility and have quarterly reporting.
Proposal made and agreed on that our budget year start in March, after new officers have been elected. New officers should make a proposal on how to spend the money collected from renewed membership in March.
Bylaws should be put on our web site, readily available for all members.
Too Dark to see what I am writing, but May meeting at Ray’s in Vidor, and June meeting at John’s in Beaumont.
Meeting closed with toast to Kyle and Mikey.
After meeting closed, I commented that Richard’s water was very hard and suggested brewer’s bring Culligan water to sparge (mash in with grains usually provides plenty of acidity, but sparging with well water will add tannins (astringency) to your beer. Nederland, Pt Nechus, and Pt.Aurthur water comes from the river (soft), unlike Richard’s, Dean’s or Orange City water that comes from wells with a lot of calcium. I offered to provide lactic acid to bring down any soft water to below pH 6. Today I got a sample of Beaumont water and it was soft; I still need to verify that my source was not reverse-osmosis treated.
I am looking forward to seeing all at Richard’s.
