I have talked to Mad Skilz Mike several times. He is interested in joining our club. Mike is a recent veteran and a student at Lamar, both of which I admire. I have offered to brew with him on a beer he selected. This will give me the opportunity to show him low cost equipment - we would brew an extract + grains beer - before he sees the much more expensive equipment many members have. Mike plans on attending the meeting at Corey's; unfortunately I will not be able to make it. Someone with a system should latch on to Mike as a second brewer on a system for the next brew-in. I will provide primary and secondary fermentation vessels for Mike for anyone that does, with the exception of Doug, who I expect to brew with. I will also supply grains I have at cost, and any other needs for his sponser (at cost) that I can pick up in Houston during the first week of Feburary.
We have many members who have systems and need a co-brewer to share cost and beer for a 10 gallon brew & help in brewing. If you are one of those, I suggest you contact Mike. Make this contact early and I will purchase your ingredients while in Houston the first week in Feb. Welcome him at Corey's.
If Mike finds a time to brew an Irish Red Ale with me, I will publish the time and invite club members to stop by.

I really appreciate the offer. I will be ready to check out the brewing process on the 27th or 28th of this month.
I am a little short on cash until pay-day - but if you tell me what i need to participiate on the next brew-in I can pick them up. I will be in Houston on 1st of February dropping the wifey off at the airport and plan on swinging by DeFalcos for starter equipment.
Since i won't have any homebrew by the time the next meeting happens i'll bring some Moosehead to the meeting at Corey's.
If anyone needs to contact me my number is 883-6765

Dont worry Mike, I am sure there will be a few beers floating around to try. As well as a little BBQ. Welcome to the club. We all look forward to meeting you in February.

Mad Mike: I suggest you delay purchase of any equipment until you have brewed. If no member needs help in brewing and sharing cost at the next brew-in, I will supply all equipment and materials for you to brew a nice beer at costs of less than $20.00 for 50 bottles of beer and I will help you brew it. If you use my equipment, you will see how inexpensive it is to get into this rewarding hobby. You can also brew with me this month, Sunday Jan 28; we would brew a simple beer (extract + grains). It could be done in an afternoon, I would do all the fermentation at my house, but would want you to help at bottling (mainly for experience). Your cost will be less than $10.00 for 25 bottles of beer, not due until you pick it up at least two weeks later. Let me know if you want to brew this month. Orange city water needs some treatment (chlorine removal and acid adjustment which takes a couple of days). Sorry old members, this offer is only for new members.

Already pre-engaged with Bob on Sunday. If you do it Saturday I can stop in and watch the process. The more I see the easier it will be for me to start making my own.

Mad Mac:
Johnny Mc is offering to pay for grains and loan you fermentation equipment. He will be brewing an all grain award winning beer. You should take him up on this great offer. Brewing an all grain beer will take 6 to 8 hours, but you will learn from a master brewer. If you only want to commit to one day this weekend, brew with Johnny. I will even ferment it for you if you bring it by. The cold temperatures expected in the near future will work well in an area usually 5 degrees cooler than my house, and I can easily get another 5 degrees. With Johnny, you will the see equipment many club members use. I have not chosen to make that investment since I have been able to regulary brew with a member that has this equipment.
Johnny: I likely have the grains you need and the hops for an ESB (belgium ale base, English Xtal, English hops). My only liquid yeast is a Wyeast Northwest. Your cost will be base grains at bag price, other grains at DeFalgos price, hops & yeast at replacement cost, all discounted 10% since I can replace next week in Houston and I have earned a 10% discount (I doubt he will also give me the club 5% discount.
Yes Johnny, you are welcome to come by, as are other club members. I planned to make this offer after Mike agreed to a time. My preference would be afternoon, finishing about 3 hours after Mike shows up. We plan on brewing a partial mash extract beer. I have a Sex-in-a Canoe red ale on tap and may pull out a great 4 year old dubble. I also have four commercial beers you likely have never drank.

life is good. Sounds like I will soon have enough experience to start my own batch's and see if i can find the style that fits my taste. Anything at all to get a good look at the process and especially the equipment it takes to brew a damn good beer.
I am especially interested in the Irish Red Ale and Johnny Max's Big Beer. Sooner or later I will graduate to lagering, but until then I will have a great starting point and hopefully a chance to contribute to the club.
...... beer caused civilization - its true - i saw it on the history channel .....

Welcome aboard Mike and Ira. Ira, I look forward to crushing and juicing some fruit this year with you. Mike, you came to the right place for learning about homebrewing. It's been a wet year so far but that just means more crawfish to eat with our beer. 3d
