Ira Sawyer - the owner of AS*IS Brewing in Sulphur called me last night (he had been trying to get me on EMail, but my bigfoot account was not working, I'm trying to correct that). Ira was the lone person that joined at the last meeting. I talked with him at length at the meeting and gave him DeFalgos bag grain prices. I also encouraged him to join.
When he told me he had joined, I assumed that I was doing - as usual at meetings - talking to some new member when the topic was brought up. In reading the club minutes, I was obviously the only one who mentioned club dues, but did so to a former non-member. It looks like we have picked up two quality new members.
In talking to Ira, I found out that Mike LaBlanc in Lake Charles has another home-brew store. I will try to stop by and see Mike. He used to carry a selection of grain, malt extract, hops, and yeast.
Ira store is primarily wine. From my discussions with him, don't stop by for advice. He is new to beer brewing and works full time, hiring someone to man the store. However, he did say he would match or beat DeFalgos prices on bags of grain. This may be the replacement for the failed attempt last year on a bulk purchase. Ira looks like a contribution to the club.
