I just wanted to say thanks to Bob, Doug and Mike H for Sunday. I had a great time watching the brewing and had some great sampling beer while learning the process. I can't wait to get my own system and start my own batch, and i am looking forward to the next meeting.
Bob showed me how to brew a partial grain Irish Red Ale. But after sampling a little too much beer (the Sammy Clause hit me hard) all i remember is the OG at 1.056.
Bob if you have some notes on the ingrediants you used i would appreciate it. I look forward to bottling day, and most of all drink day.
Thanks again everyone, I really appreciated my first lesson in homebrewing and I look forward to making any contributions I can.

I work M-F 8am - 5pm --- class days are Tues and Thurs 5:30pm - 6:45pm. But i am taking some time off this week to run to DeFalcos to get my gear.
So far this is what is on my list of things to get
Triple Ripple S-Lock Spirit Hydrometer (0 - 200 Proof) Stainless Steel Dial Thermometer (long for wort - short for yeast) 30 quart (7 1/2 gallon) medium-weight kettle 6.5 gallon glass carboy Drilled Rubber Stopper Bottling Bucket 2 cases of brown bottles Capper Caps Tubing
I will do some more research before finding my own recipe --- so far i am leaning towards the Nottingham Ale Yeast and Saaz hops.

Mike: I suggest you stop off at Academy in Beaumont on you way and price 30 -32 gt vessels. They will be cheaper than DeFalgos for a brew pot and will likely come with a propane burner. You will need a bottling bucket, but Market Basket throws out these (soap for cleaning), don't buy any bottles, I have plenty or you can buy a nice beers (i.e Dos Equiques Amber) and clean them yourself for about the same price. Tubing can be found at any hardware store for a cheeper price. Nothinghan is a nice dry yeast for English extract brews, and only cost about a buck. As we mentioned last Sunday and John also mentioned, there is a place in Winney that will sell you a 6.5 - 7 gal glass carboy at much less than DeFalgos. You will also need a hydrometer glass (although you can usually use the tube it comes in). For a good thermometer, I suggest you buy a dial thermometer (for turkey brewing, cheap) at Academy and a second digital thermometer at Walmart. You saw both of these at my house Sunday.
Welcome to brewing.

in that case it looks like i might have some heavy drinking to do over the weekend to get some bottles ready.
If I can come take a peak at the fermentation process on the Irish Red I will bring some beer over, I have Thursday and Friday off and Saturday and Sunday are drill days.
I just wanted to say I really appreciate everyone, I did not expect such a warm welcome and people so willing to show me how to get started. This will be a hobby I can keep for another 30 years.

Mad Mike: Stop over for a few beers Thursday or Saturday to check on the fermentation. My wife will have a medical procedure initiated in Houston Friday afternoon, continued the next week. Best time is before 6:00 on Thursday and after 6:00 on Saturday (we eat dinner usualy from 6:00 to 7:00). I have plenty of bottles for your next brew so only buy beers you really like or want to try. The fermentation is going great, I will rack to the secondary either tomorrow or Friday morning.

Mike: If you have tomorrow afternoon off, I will rack to the secondary at your convenience. It will take less than 15 minutes, but we can spend more time together discussing brewing and enjoying good beer. This can also be done Friday morning. Let me know.
