Hello everyone. Everything is starting to come together. Thanks Ira for getting the crawfish and purged toboot. Ira will pick them up in Vinton on the way over. Also Ira and John Cotton are making beer on Dean's system that day also. More on beer later. I will pick up the vegis and crawfish seasoning on Fri and start a list posting here on Wed. Also post some final directions. How many miles down 1131, Lake View? Johnny Mac/Transporter where are you. Ira will supervise the boil. A special way of boiling makes em yummy. Salthingyer in one pot, seasoning in the other. He will need two pots per burner or 6 to 3 ratio. Dean 2 pots. Mark K 1 burner 1 pot. Me 1 pot, Bob 1 pot 1 burner, Ray 1 pot 1 burner. We need another pot. Anyone with icemakers fill an icechest for the Clubs 10 gal of beer (bock and Porter). We also need 6 med or 3 lge icechests for the crawfish. I've got 1 - 96 qt. Need a couple more. The day will start around 9 am for beer and 11 am for crawfish. Ira/John, me, Mark K. and Dave said they will be over early. More the merrier. If anyone else wants to make beer time to speak up. Ray's and Johnny Macs systems are close by if you want to bribe one of them. I'm not too sure what was decided on at the last meeting regarding the clubs contribution and costs. I'll hit up John for the notes and get them in tomorrow hopefully. As far as the costs I recommend $6 per person (plus club tips) for people eating crawfish (exact cost tbd on Sat morning). It's our anniversary so I'd like to keep is simple ie same costs for everyone eating crawfish. We're getting the crawfish at est $300 and $100 for seasoning/veges, condiments. The final per person cost should be able to keep the clubs monetary exposure below $300 if that what was voted for. We had a large jar one year and did pretty good. I think Bob volunteered to take/hold the money if he is not making beer. Thanks Bob. Everything should be fleshed out by Friday and know the exact cost of the crawfish on Sat morning. I'll be on everynite this week to talk and discuss. Ray boiled up some crawfish this past weekend. They were big and perfect so he is exempt from any heavy lifting this weekend. I'll also check with Robert R. Make sure he is coming. I'm bringing some boudin, sausage, burger meat for the pit. Who's bringing some meat? Also bring your favorite dish. If we're lucky Dean will make some of his sourdough bread. Has Wade been in touch with Albert? Has Joe talked to Billy F lately? Sounds like a great time. Doug

Doug: At the last meeting, Mark proposed we try to limit our losses to $200, and proposed a $10:00 charge for those eating crawfish. I apposed since the night before I filled up at Papadeaux in Houston for $9:00. Susan (Mark's wife - non member) voiced opposition to a tip jar. I agreed; I think everyone should know what they are expected to pay. I think your compromise of $6:00 for members and family members eating crawfish is reasonable, but we will defiantly lose more than $200.00.
Are you interested in brewing? I have ingredients, and even some weird yeast for a 90 minute Dogfish IPA. Give me a call if interested.

Johnny: If they eat crawfish anywhere they would pay $10:00 per person. Here they get club beer and companions with similar interest.

Johnny: I have never seen discounts for our club members at Houston events. Why should we offer them anything?

Hello everyone. Something else we need to start collecting are beer cartons for the crawfish. We'll need about 40. Go by your nearest liquor store and see if they have any. I'm putting together a list of misc things to bring and will post tomorrow nite. I talked to Robert R and I think he and his family are coming. After reading the minutes, here is my interpretation. $5 for each member or family and $10 for each guest that eat crawfish. Otherwise it's free. This appears fair since the members will be boiling providing equip bringing meat, dishes etc. It's a group contribution by all members and it's for us and our family. All of our guest do not have to bring anything. I believe this was the intent of the members voting at the last meeting. John, for our out of town guests from other clubs let me know how many and I will help subsidize their costs. It shouldn't be too many. Anyway, I hope this settles the money issue. This is our biggest and only sponsered club feast this year (no shrimp gumbo for Chistmas last year) so let's plan for a great time. We still need a pot and coolers. Speak up Doug

Oh and for clarification, for our single members, their date is considered family.

I am just curious..... If this was all hammered out and voted on at the meeting, then why was it brought up here as if it was not settled. I guess I got sucked into it fot no reason.
Later.....................

I don't entirely agree. While they may not offer discounts, I don't think they charge us more than anyone else. At the Rendezbrew I don't think we are paying any more than the other clubs, but I could be mistaken. What would be wrong with charging a club price regardless of what club you belong to?
Guess I'm up to 4ยข now...

The problem is that their events are money making event, we will lose money on the crawfish boil. We should consider holding a brew contest next year at crawfish time and charge them the $15:00 that they charged us at Ron-de-Breaux. They even made money on the celebration. We will lose money on every quest that pays $10:00. I have a number of friends that would jump at $10:00 for crawfish and beer; I have not invited any because I realize that that price cost the club.

John: You were at the last meeting. Mark proposed limiting our losses to $200:00 and proposed a $10:00 per head charge. Not thinking about many extended family members attending, I thought $5:00 would suffice to limit the loss to $200:00. Afterwords, Mark mentioned he had two adult sons who might attend, I know you have two daughters that might attend. I expect others also have adult family that might attend. We did agree that ALL guest would pay $10:00. If I had realized that the individual cost would exceed this amount, I would have proposed a higher figure for guests.

Let me throw in my 2 cents At the end of last meeting we did not even know if the crawfish boil would take place.None of these arrangements were planned at a meeting.I applaud everyone working to pull this event off.My only concern is charging different prices for members and nonmembers. There should be one price for all. Thats the way it is at every event I have attended.I would be offended if I were asked to pay more than others. The club can contribute as much as the membership wants to spend and the rest should be divided by those eating crawfish. Just my thoughts

After hearing and discussing the cost issue with the executive committee Mark, Dave and John C and others here, I think the consensus is one price for each person that eats crawfish. Different prices for different people is tacky. $5 or 6 per person depending on the final price which we'll find out Sat morning. I arrive at this price because the average person eats 5-6 lbs of crawfish. I also like $6 because that means a lot of dollar bills will be available to eat extra crawfish, tipping (not just the club but the house also), or just floating around. Ha. Bob is correct, all we need to recoup the costs is approx $1/lb or $200. If anyone is concerned about people eating more than 6 lbs then we can make a sign that says that. eg $6 or $1/lb. There's honor among crawfish eaters I think. Anyway, that's what we'll do this year. One price for all. Now, do we need to discuss who gets the floating dollars??? Ha. Now that this is settled, everyone look at my list and make sure I'm getting everything. I know I'm leaving stuff out. Also, I have two containers for the clubs beer kegs. Still need volunteer for the 6th pot and coolers. Don't forget to go by the liquor store for beer carts, I'll go by Specs tomorrow to see what I can get. Right now there is a chance of rain so we may need to put up a cover on Sat. I am probably guilty of raising the cost/person issue. I was not at the last meeting (Project Graduation). I believe discussing the issue here allows the executive committee to here everyone's thoughts and arrive at a consensus. Sometimes our club meetings are hurried so as to get back to beer drinking and meat burning. This forum allows our club to ensure the best decision is made. We did good. Thanks for all of your comments.

Doug. FYI, when you get the vegetables, I plan on bringing a fairly large bag of corn on the cob as my contribution to the side dishes since I'm too lazy to cook anything. It won't be enough to cover all the corn needs but you can buy a bag less than you were planning.

Thanks for the directions to Dean's house Mark and for the corn Joe. I went by Specs and got about 40 beer carts. I have a few club pictures over the years, so I'll try to collect all of them on a cd. Everyone try to bring their pictures digital/analog on cd. I know Mark has some. This will be a great time to get the entire club picture collection together. Maybe put it on a slidshow. I'll bring a few clean cds and this laptop.

Bob made a good point on the cost per person so I have decided to not only bring my girlfriend but also her girlfriend and her mother. Beat that Raybo. And thanks home brewers for subsidizing this.
Seriously, as some of you may know, Candace's dad passed away last Friday. I am bringing her and a friend from Utah who came to the funeral as well as her Mother to get her out for a while. Hope that's OK with everyone.
Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
