Jason, here is a link to the show where I interviewed Chris Colby the editor of BYO and he explained how to grow hops here in Texas and what varieties he has has success with. www.brewcrazy.com/podcast/BrewCrAzY-07-11-11.mp3But to put it in a nutshell, you need to grow American hops like Cascade, which he said this produced the most hops, Centennial next then nugget. He said to plant them where they have sun up until noon and shade after that and when it gets real hot to water them every day. I was going to get mine from www.Freshops.com but they took their prices off which makes me think they are going to jack up the prices, because of the shortage.

With orders over $18 you get a free packet of seeds. I was wanting to grow some AMARANTHE, GRAIN and they sell it. It is a grain the Aztecs fermented into a beer. I want to know what it tasted like. They also boiled the red flowers in it to make it red in color.

what kind of yield do you think you would get from for instance one cascade rhizome grown, and during the pod cast I noticed he said something about it takes several seasons for the vine to mature enough to produce? and what about insects are they a problem with hops?
