The Foam Rangers have an Annual Homebrewer’s Camp-out and other clubs are invited. They lost the place they normally have it, just outside LaGrange TX and they are thinking about someplace along the Guadalupe river this year. Last year some of us Golden Triangle Home brewers made it, Doug, Raybo Mark M. myself and wives and kids. It was a blast.
I was wondering if we wanted to host an Annual event like that as a club and open it up to all homebrewers and clubs. We have access to a FREE Public beach at McFadden.
We could call it something like the:
"1st Annual Homebrew Beer Beach Bash"
Show up on Friday evening set up camp and leave Saturday or Sunday, when ever you like.
No open fires, but we could use our fire-pits and grills.
On Saturday we could have "Beach Beer Olympics" and give homemade crappy trophies to the winners. We could have competitions like. 1) Keg Toss 2) Time who can down a 24 oz beer the fastest 3) Plastic (full) carboy relay 4) Fishing contest for biggest fish 5) Dumb Ass Drunk Stunt Award Or what ever.
Mc Madden beach is much more rustic and not very commercialized. There are no homes around at all. Kind of in the middle of no-where! Hell, if girls can lay around naked, I bet we can have a lot of fun and it be okay. I think we would need to do it away from any homes to avoid any complaints.
We would need to do it when it warms up enough for swimming.
Any Interest?

I no a better beach rite there at rollover its reall close for us we can burn fires drive on the beach, ECT. and there is plenty of facilities for camping, and travel trailers and what not and you can have fires on the beach or you can just pull your trailer or camp on the beach and there are motels just up the road for those who cant rough it and its a (thats where I caught that <<<<<<<)great fishing hole as well or we could do something on the the river we have just north of here I cant think of the name of it rite now but I have been canoeing on it a bunch of times its awsome out there (you no where the zoo is at) anyway there is a bunch of beaches we could rent canoes and have a blast on the river but you can camp anywhere out there its an official state canoe trail (Village creek thats the name) but we could all have a camp under the bridge there

Personally, I think the beach idea is best, because the Foam Rangers have an annual Homebrew camp-out already and I am going to it for sure. I guess Roll-Over will work fine, but I did not think you had to have a beach permit for McFadden. Bummer....

The Bolivar Beach Parking Permit does not include McFadden beach. I think McFadded beach is still FREE and with a hell of a lot less harrasment from authorities. Crystal beach and that whole area they all harrass the hell out of everybody. You are not supposed to make a fire on crystal either. They do though as they do at McFadden. I am still leaning to more rustic and more free. My 2 cents....

Well, I talked with the owners of Rocky's RV Park & Pier (used to be Meacom's pier) and they said there is no problem for us gathering there, if we decide to. They do not have a bunch of RV spots, but they do have a few. Personally, I would just set up a tent over the dunes and a canopy, unless Jason has roon in his RV. There is a wide section out on the pier that is pretty roomy, we can pay a little extra and they will rope it off for us and we can set up our canopy out there and have our chairs, icechests and all, or set up on the beach.
How about hosting a: Homebrew BIG Fish Challenge
It would be so easy to host a BIG Fish Challenge. $10 entry fee and just give a trophy for the Biggest Shark and one for the Biggest Non-Shark. 5 or 6 entries would cover the trophy cost. We could invite homebrewers from other clubs and their families. If we planned it after shcool is out it should be nice and warm.
Schedule tournament check-in between 6:00pm Friday to 9:00am Saturday and all fish need to be weighed in by 6:00pm Saturday. We would have to make it so that if a fish is too big to be weighed, then it goes by length. I need to see if they have scales to weigh large sharks at the pier, you never know, somebofy could drag a 1,000 lb shark out of the Gulf.
Actually organizing something like this is very easy. We could also have a Trophy for the best keg of homebrew, that way we are more likely to have homebrew there from other clubs and or members.
Just spitting out more ideas. I love fishing at that pier though. I used to fish at the Dirty Pelican up the road, but they closed it down. How about June 20th - 21st
1st Annual - Homebrew BIG Fish Challenge

there is a calculation you can do on fish to figure there weight its something like girth x weight x pi or3.1416/800 but I'll find out before then its real easy to do on a calculator thats how the state recorded the weight of my fish

sounds like a blast, ill warn ya tho sand gets into places that you wouldnt think it could get lol but ill be in a Tent like always in the sand.... the bigest fish sounds great count me i have some experiance fishing in the gulf but i doubt a big shark will be there, i have mostly caught shark after dark, but who knows, the water depth there is prolly around 14- 30 ft deep rite? if so the speckled trout or grouper should be there, even maby a few bull reds, and some hard heads for sure.

I have been fishing that area since i was 4 years old I can show you some awsome shark holes well any kind of fish you want I can tell you the spot to catch it I no all the bait holes also we shouldnt have to worry about bait if any of yall have powered bait wells bring um I usualy catch a shit load of shrimp and I like to keep them alive and away from other bait I have one or two but for all of us we will need more i'll throw the net and johnny has one too.
I should have my Kayak by then woohoo the formula is (Girth x Girth) x Length) / 800 = weight in pounds (girth and length are inches)
