The 10th annual Mountain Home-brewers Competition in West Virginia (http://hbd.org/ghha/Meetings2007/MBO2007/MBOAnn2007) is accepting entrees. This is a great contest for a number of reasons which I outline below. In addition, I will ship 6 entrees and provide my beer boxes for another 6-12 (read the fine print).
The reasons that this is a great place for entering is:
1. This is a small competition (last year 209 entrees), increasing your chance of winning.
2. The entree fee is only $5:00 and requires only two bottles.
3. There is no mention of the need to eliminate embossed bottles.
4. They will award medallion for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in all categories. Last year I won a 1st, second, and 3rd place medal. Many competitions will not award a 1st place medal unless the score exceeds 40, with similar stipulations on other awards. I think this is the contest I won a 3rd place medal with a score of 22.
5. The receiving place is an Episcopal church. There should be no hassle in shipping.
I am packing 6 entries that I will ship Monday. I have more I plan on entering.
Now the fine print. I will bring two boxes that I receive beer in every month. I pay a premium of about $10:00 over regular price to get beer not available in this area. They are not marked with "glass" or "this side up". These boxes would sustain a significant drop and the shipper always keeps the label side up. In the first box, I will have one entree in which I will not share in shipping cost. I will also have one additional entree in which I will share the shipping cost ($3 to $4 per enter, I will know by next weeks meeting). The second box will also contain one of my entrees, at free shipping. I suggest that the shipper also gets free shipping, and the others split the shipping cost.
I am doing this to encourage new brewers to enter their beers. Because of this, since I control the boxes, I want you to respond to this site if you are interested in entering. Priority will be given to previous non-winners and new brewers, then to those I owe favors (Doug, Dean, and Dave), then to the rest of the club, in the order that they respond. Initially, I will limit each to one entree, but if there is space in the second or third box, multiple entrees are possible (starting with the people I gave priotity to above), again based on earliest response. I will guarantee filling the second box even if their is only one person interested. If the interest is big, I will gaurentee filling the third box.
