Ok now the news...
Southern Star 2nd Anniversary Party!
------------------------------------
Southern Star Brewing Co. will be holding our 2nd Anniversary Party. Though we
will be doing things a little different this year:
Party Date: March 27th 4pm-8pm
*NOTE: Due to the party we have decided to cancel our Brewery Tour for March
27th.
Admission is $10 advance/ $15 door. Includes live entertainment, beverages and
a commemorative pint glass.
Party limited to 300 people.
Reservations can be made either phone 936-441-2739 or
brewery@southernstarbrewing.com
Thanks to everybody who has supported us; because of you we are able to
celebrate another Anniversary!
2010 Pro-Am Competition
-----------------------
Attention all home brewers!
It's Happening Again!
Southern Star Brewing is having a best of show competition (without the actual
show). The winning recipe will be brewed here with the winner and be released
as the 2010 Addition to the Southern Star Pro-Am line. The beer will also be
entered into the 2010 GABF Pro-Am competition.
As always, there are a few rules:
•Great American Beer Festival rules dictate that to be eligible for the Pro-Am,
the home brewer MUST be an American Home brewer Association member, both at the
time the beer is judged by us, and at the time it is judged at the GABF.
•Entries Must be greater than 5% ABV. Our license does not allow us to make
weak beer.
•Entries must be ready to drink within 2 months after brewing. If you brew a
giant, it must mellow fast.
•Entry must be able to be replicated on our system (i.e. no decoction or weird
ingredient prep). We are capable of step infusion. Single step infusion
preferred.
•Entries cannot be from blended batches. See above rule.
•There is no entry fee. Enter as many beers as you want. Style is open.
Judges are invited to enter.
•You must submit at least 4 bottles of each entry along with the recipe(we will
keep the recipe private unless you state otherwise).
•Entry deadline is April 17th.
•Homebrewers cannot be employed at a professional brewery.
Entries will be judged on a 2 round basis that may extend to three rounds by
Houston area Homebrew illuminati (or as many of them as we can round up/convince
to do this).
Keep in mind our existing beer styles, as we are looking to diversify.
Good luck and we look forward to drinking...err, judging your entries!
National Homebrew Day. May 1st 2010
-----------------------------------
8am - ?
Dave invites all home-brewers to come join him in brewing a special batch on the
big system. After we are finished, we will split the wort up into home brewer's
individual carboys to take home and tweak/ferment as they see fit. NO yeast
will be provided at the brewery, so get with your local home brew supply shop
and order some yeast. We want everyone to keep records of what they did, and
then join us on a Sunday in mid to late August (date to be determined later) to
share the fruits of our labor. To guarantee wort for yourself at this event,
signup is encouraged (brewery@southernstarbrewing.com). 16 Barrels makes about
100 5-gallon batches. The wort made will be Brown, 1.060 and 30 IBU’s with a
fairly neutral hop (probably Saphir or Goldings). Bring your pre-sanitized
carboys.
Brian will be conducting an all grain brewing class at the same time to
demonstrate all grain brewing on a small scale (and to make us some rauchbier to
drink!). Put your thinking caps on and bring a notebook!
Some Older News-Look for Buried Hatchet on the move
---------------------------------------------------
After many delays the Buried Hatchet Stout cans arrived on December 23rd. We
have been working hard to try and get the stout to our distributors and thus to
your favorite beverage store. Hopefully you can start finding them around your
neck of the woods.
Other Older News-Southern Star Goes Green
-----------------------------------------
We have made contact with a new business in town (Let’s Recycle LLC 503 N 1st
street Conroe, TX 77301 713-298-0385) that will finally allow us to recycle
almost 100% of the waste generated at the brewery. We are excited about working
with an EPA certified, local company and look forward to a long partnership that
benefits both of our companies and the environment at the same time. This move
ties in perfectly with our corporate model of working with local companies and
manufacturing in a sustainable manner.
Well that's it for now everyone. Sorry for the delay on the newsletter, been
busy just trying to get the Buried Hatchet out the door. But thanks again to
everyone for their support!
